RAJ HOLNESS / GUEST SPEAKER @eden SUNDAY 19/11/17

September 22, 2014/POSTED BY

Raj Holness is an author, public speaker, founder & CEO of Breaking the Silence (BTSUK).
Winner of Asian Business Awards Community Champion 2016, West
Midlands Woman of the Year 2015 & Most Inspirational Woman 2015
awards.

Raj Holness suffered years of domestic abuse at the hands of her family and
then later on by ex-partners. She wrote it all in her autobiography ‘The Only
Arranged Marriage by Raj Jarrett’.
She stayed silent for 20 years, her abusers taunting her repeatedly that no
one would listen and there would be no escape – but they were wrong – and
when Raj finally found the courage to break the silence, a project was born,
Breaking the Silence! (www.btsuk.org)
For over 10 years she has travelled around the country speaking at over 200
organisations, highlighting the cause of domestic abuse on not only the
victim but also on those close to them. Over the last year she has spoken to
over 1000’s of women, men and young people on her experiences of
domestic abuse and forced marriages and how she managed to escape.
Her ongoing support, encouragement and contacts have helped many to
leave their volatile life and get help. Out of this, BTSUK is setup to raise
awareness of issues around domestic abuse, forced marriages and human
trafficking. One of our mission’s is to establish a refuge (Grace House) for
mothers and children as well as single women.
