[tabby title="Our History"] History of The Apostolic Church

History of The Apostolic Church

In 1904/5 Wales experienced an outbreak of Revival, which had tremendous effects on many parts of the British Isles. This was followed by a mighty visitation of the Holy Spirit, which fell simultaneously on many parts of the world and many received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with signs following.
As a result, various Pentecostal groups worldwide were formed, they believed that the gifts of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers of Ephesians 4:11, should operate in the Church together with the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit spelt out in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. The Apostolic Church was therefore born in 1916 in Penygroes, South Wales, United Kingdom.
It was the vision of Apostolic doctrine that gripped the first leader of the Fellowship, Daniel Powell Williams, who in 1913, was ordained an Apostle in the Body of Christ and later became the first President of The Apostolic Church Council and remained so until his death in 1947. The Lord also called brother William Jones Williams, as a Prophet in the Body of Christ and in 1913 he was ordained into the full-time ministry of the Church.
They were called together with others to demonstrate the New Testament offices of Apostle and Prophet in the United Kingdom. Subsequently these ministries were exercised in other countries and continents of the World.
It has pioneered churches in over 40 nations, many of whom are now self-governing, most notably in Western Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Eden is a fruit of the Revival. The Church fellowship started in Barking in the late 1940's, then moved from Barking to Ilford in the late 1950’s. Eden Church is an Apostolic Church and part of The Apostolic Church in the UK and The Apostolic Church worldwide.

[tabby title="Vision and Values"] Vision and Values

Vision and Values

Our vision is to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, transform lives and make everyone a disciple.
Our mission is built around Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." Matthew 28:19-20
The vision outworked in the Church I see:
  • Prayer focused
  • God centred, purpose driven and people empowering
  • Exciting, full of life and fun to be in
  • Numerically large and spiritually deep
  • Non religious - naturally supernatural
  • Renown for character, integrity and excellence
  • One that glorifies God and bring His love to a lost world
  • Attractive, confident, victorious and overcoming
  • Powerful in Praise and Worship and the Word of God
  • Equipping, enabling and releasing ordinary people to do extraordinary things and live extraordinary lives
  • Deeply committed, loving, caring and family focused
  • A place of refuge for the lost, lonely and broken, helping them to gain hope and belonging
  • Breaking chains of addictions, freeing the oppressed, having a great capacity for healing and wholeness

[tabby title="What We Believe"] What We Believe

What We Believe

Eden is an Apostolic Church and part of The Apostolic Church in the UK and the Apostolic Church worldwide.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
ABOUT GOD

The unity of the Godhead and the Trinity of the Persons therein. There is one God, the creator and ruler of the universe. He exists eternally in three distinct but equal persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22, Psalm 90:2, Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14. 1 Peter 1:2

ABOUT HUMANITY

The utter depravity of human nature, the necessity for repentance and regeneration, and the eternal doom of the finally impenitent. People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like him in character. They are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although people have tremendous potential for good, they are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates humankind from God. Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6, Isaiah 59:1-2, Acts 20:21, Romans 3:23, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Revelation 20:11-15

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

The Virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, triumphant resurrection, ascension and continuing intercession of our Lord Jesus Christ; His second coming and millennial reign upon earth. God’s eternal Son was born to Mary, a virgin, from whom He received His humanity. Fully human, He was nonetheless without sin, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit. Having lived with perfect holiness, He bore in His death the penalty of all others’ sin. After God the Father raised him from death He returned in triumph to heaven where He represents His people. He will come again to rule over the earth for a thousand years. Matthew 1:18-25, Acts 2: 29-32, Hebrews 2:9, 1 Peter 2:21-24.

ABOUT SALVATION

The justification and sanctification of the believer through the finished work of Christ. Through His life and death Jesus provided fully for our salvation. When we trust in him as our Saviour we are completely forgiven and declared to be in right standing with God. We are now set apart for God. By the Holy Spirit’s power we can grow in the Christ-likeness God requires of us. Romans 3:21-24, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, Ephesians 4:23-24

ABOUT THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The baptism of the Holy Spirit for believers, with signs following. God intends all Christians to know a definite experience of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. This baptism will result in clear evidences of the Spirit’s work, empowering the church for its mission in the world. Acts 2, Acts 10:44-48

ABOUT THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The nine gifts of the Holy Ghost for the edification, exhortation and comfort of the Church, which is the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit grants Christians supernatural abilities. They are used to help build up, encourage and strengthen the church. The early church in the Bible needed such gifts and today, we also need them to help us. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 1 Corinthians 13:9-12

ABOUT BAPTISM & THE LORD’S SUPPER

The sacraments of baptism by immersion, and of the Lord’s Supper. Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and is your public declaration that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Baptism does not save you, but shows the world that you have already been saved. And while baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ. His death and resurrection are the permanent basis of Christian life. Therefore He also ordained that the church should meet to remember Him by eating bread and drinking wine as symbols of his body and blood. Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Acts 2:38-41, Romans 6:3-14, Ephesians 2:8-9, Colossians 2:12

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The divine inspiration and authority of the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is God’s word to all mankind. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture or error. Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6, Proverbs 30:5, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Timothy 1:13, 2 Peter 1:20, 21

ABOUT CHURCH LEADERSHIP

Church government by Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, Teachers, Elders and Deacons. Church leadership is provided by men with varying God-given ministries. They complement each other and together express Christ’s government of his church. God has ‘gifted’ people in the church to lead it. These people are not ‘superhuman’ or promoted into positions, but God’s gift in them is recognised, nurtured and tested. When the person is found suitable, they may be ‘set’ into their place of ministry (serving). Ephesians 4:11, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-11

ABOUT ETERNITY

The security of the believer as he remains in Christ. Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Matthew 25:31-46, John 3:16, Romans 6:23, 1 Corinthians 10:12, 1 Timothy 1:19, Hebrews 3:12, 1 John 5:11-12, Revelation 20:15

ABOUT GIVING

The obligatory nature of tithes and offerings. The privilege and responsibility of bringing tithes and offerings to the Lord. It is our privilege and responsibility to give a tenth of our income to support Gods’ work. Further giving should result from increased prosperity and as we are faced both by opportunities to spread the Gospel and the world’s need.

[tabby title="My First Time"] My First Time

My First Time

Visiting any church for the first time can be daunting – there are lots of questions, and you are probably wondering what to expect when you arrive. The one thing we try very hard to do is to give everyone a warm welcome, and try to make your visit worthwhile. After all, we’d love it if you wanted to come back!
Who are we?
Eden Christian Centre Eden Christian Centre is part of the Apostolic church, which was first formed in 1916. Eden consists of a wide range of different people, from all ages, different backgrounds and cultures. Whoever you are, you are assured a very warm welcome.
Where are we?
Eden Church is in the heart of Ilford, Essex, on the edge of the town.
Parking
On Sundays there are plenty of free on the road parking around the Church. On Saturdays and during the week parking is free after 6.30pm. There are no parking restrictions in the neighbouring roads, although please be considerate by not parking too close to driveways and road junctions. If you want a space you might need to arrive early.
What to wear
This is easy… wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We accept people just as they are!
When you arrive
If it’s your first visit then it’s probably best to turn up about 5 or 10 minutes before the service begins. You’ll be greeted at the door by our ‘Welcome Team’ who will give you some information about the service and notices of forthcoming events and show you to a seat.
What to expect
Our regular style of worship is contemporary praise and worship songs with an emphasis on biblical preaching. We take a collection during our services, but as a visitor there is no obligation to give. Hopefully you’ll find us to be friendly and if you don’t understand something please ask.
Prayer Ministry
As Christians, we believe that prayer changes things. Often after the preaching we offer ‘Prayer’. This usually takes place at the front of the church. Prayer is also available at other times so please do not be afraid to ask.
Is it just Sundays?
Absolutely not! We offer mid-week services, activities and groups. Groups meet for friendship, study and prayer and are a great way to get to know others in the church and grow together.
For those with disabilities
We aim to be an all-inclusive church, with a Church that is accessible for those with disabilities.

    Eden Man

    Eden Man

'I found the men’s group really helpful. When we get together the discussions have opened my eyes and my understanding, we go away feeling much better about things'

    'James Prempeh'
At Eden Christian Centre we believe it is our duty to encourage all men to walk in the calling God has ordained for them.
The Eden Men’s group facilitates this by combining practical lessons and teachings from the Bible to help our men along their Christian walk.
Eden Man provides a fellowship for which members can confide in their fathers, sons, brothers and friends. With the help of this ministry, men can operate in their daily environments with anointing and purpose. The men of Eden are sociable and meetings are often dressed as an ‘Eden Breakfast’, where breakfast cooked for a morning session, followed by a group discussion and a time of worship or a relaxed drop-in for prayer sessions.
The Breakfast sessions have proven to be both enjoyable and impactful as they give an opportunity for men to not only ‘show off’ their culinary skills but the opportunity to interact with others.
There is also the weekly drop-in prayer group. This is a flexible approach to prayer and will often have a discussion element attached to it.

  • Helping Hands

    Helping Hands

'What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? '

    'James 2:14-16'
Well-known proverb: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
Helping Hands is a ministry set up at Eden to provide practical support predominantly to Eden Church members and on occasions those in the wider community. This is done through many forms but primarily by providing groceries and career support.
We accept non-perishable foods (e.g. long lasting foods such as rice, dry pasta, tins etc.) and groceries (e.g. oil, washing products etc. We also rely upon donations from church members who are encouraged to give a £1 or more.
Apart from the core work of Helping Hands, we also provide Careers Advice, pointing people in the right direction, giving guidance with CV writing and Entrepreneurial Support.
Helping Hands seeks to hold financial money management seminars, adopting biblical principles. These seminars are not to give financial advice but to point people to biblical principles. The bible has a lot to say about money.
For more information or to find out ways in which you could be of help to the Helping Hands ministry, please get in touch with Christine Jones at info@edencc.co.uk or call us on 020 8478 4765
    Eden Woman

    Eden Woman

'She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.'

    'Proverbs Ch31v26'
The Women’s department has been a functioning arm of the Apostolic Church structure from as far back as I can remember. In today’s society, the role of women is still important in helping and aiding the church to be relevant and in touch.
The Women’s department operates within the vision of Eden; united in praise and worship to God, making an impact in our community backed up by the presence and power of God. We encourage involvement from all age groups, valuing age and wisdom as well as energy and ideas.
The Bible gives us many examples of God effective and powerful women, Queens and Prophetesses, Warrior and Judges; women who showed great faith, women who served others, women of virtue, women with great hearts to love. In the world today, we should be no different.
As the church grows, so does the role of women and the need for our input increases; every woman is unique and an asset that God has gifted with the ability to make a difference in their lives, home, church, relationships and workplace.
Here at Eden we believe that you are blessed and highly favoured - why not come and talk with us.
    prey

    All About Girl Talk (GT)

Girl Talk (GT) is a department within Eden Woman aimed at reaching young women in their mid-teens to late twenties. The vision was born out of a direction from God and a desire to see young women become God effective, empowered, equipped and ready to go.

Created in July 2009, it became essential that the topics we covered were real issues facing young women such as pre-marital sex, self-esteem issues, drugs and alcohol.
Being a godly purpose driven young woman in today’s society can be hard work, the pitfalls are many; we have dreams and ambitions and carve out paths for ourselves, but it doesn’t always go according to plan and we can find ourselves in situations or circumstances beyond our control, which can leave us dealing with issues and a past we may feel ashamed of
However, why should we wallow in sadness at things that have gone wrong when God has a wonderful guilt-free future for us? Jesus said; “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” John Chapter 8 v 12. Visit us at www.girl-talk.co.uk

    Eden Praise

    Eden Praise

‘Worship is the response of our entire lives to God’

'Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.'

    'Romans 12:1'
For us, worship is not just a weekly event, but also rather a way of living. It is dependence upon and gratitude towards the Lord.

While corporate worship is an important expression of that walk of worship, it must be fuelled by lives of personal and private devotion and faithfulness.

    'John 4:21-24; 1 Corinthians 10:31'
We experience the power of God when we worship Him. The Bible says He inhabits the praises of His people, so every time we worship through our Praise we expect God to be drawn into our presence. To that end we always start our Sunday morning service with worship, actually every service we tend to do just that.
Eden Praise is the praise and worship department of Eden Christian Centre. In Eden we are known for powerful, anointed worship. The ministry is blessed with gifted people many of whom are professional musicians and singers working in the music industry.
Eden Praise is led by Yetunde Olomolaiye with oversight from Pastor Bryon. Eden Praise consists of several Worship Leaders, musicians and singers supported by technical and admin workers.
If you are gifted in this area and believe you could add to the team, then send an email to Yetunde: info@edencc.co.uk or call the office on 020 84784765

The Young Adults meet in weekly blocks for life applicable Bible teaching, food and friendship. They seek to be an integral part of the Church through different forms of ministry. [see calendar for meeting times]

It is a course which is designed particularly for people who wouldn’t normally go to church but is open to anyone who wants to explore some of life’s biggest questions, such as whether God is real, why suffering exists, and what life is really all about.
    What can I expect?
Every week at Alpha you will get to share a meal, hear a talk on an interesting topic and get the chance to discuss it in an open and honest manner, where no question is too simple or too hostile. It’s a great place to build friendships, some of which last beyond the course. If you are coming with friends you can choose to sit together; just let us know.
    What does it cost?
Alpha is completely free of charge and includes a free meal every week.
    Where and when is it?
The course takes place at Eden Christian Centre, Connaught Road, Ilford IG1 1RN and starts Wednesday 17th Sept 2014 and every Wednesday thereafter, from 7pm to 9pm
To register or for more information call: 020 8478 4765 or email: alpha@edencc.co.uk

HELPING THE COMMUNITY
Donate to Eden Church or to one of our Many Social Action Causes

Make a Donation to Eden Church

We are so grateful for the generosity of people that enables Eden to bring practical and spiritual help across a wide range of ministries. Those of us who consider Eden to be our home are encouraged to help further this work through financial support. We believe that it is very biblical to demonstrate our love for God through sacrificial giving.

How to make a Donation:

When attending Services at Church

You can do this by filling out the envelope provided and placing it in one of the offering containers. An offering is taken at the morning service. You can use the giving envelopes provided to give cash, cheque or make debit or credit card payments.

Standing Order

This is an effective and convenient way to give. Simply decide how much you want to give, set it up, and let your giving take care of itself each month. Speak to Pastor Tolu Olomolaiye if you would like to set up this facility. [wpdm_file id=2]

Online Giving

You can give your regular tithes and offerings online. Log on to your online banking and request to set up a donation to be made to The Apostolic Church - Ilford, Sort Code 40-02-48, Account Number: 41673025. When setting this up, please provide us with your surname and initials, and email info@edencc.co.uk to let us know you have set up a new transfer.

Cheque

If you would like to pay by cheque, please make it out to The Apostolic Church – Ilford and send it to The Finance Team, Eden Christian Centre, Connaught Road, Ilford IG1 1RN. You may also place it in one of the tithe envelopes and place it in the offering basket during the service.

Payroll Giving

Gift Aid...

Have you signed up for our Gift Aid scheme?
The Gift Aid scheme entitles Eden Christian Centre to claim an extra 25p on every £1 given by a UK taxpayer. It won’t cost you any extra; the government pays us on your behalf.
